Sun Safety
Whether it’s at the beach or in the outback, Australians love spending time in the sun. However, Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. There are simple and effective ways to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, like limiting your UV exposure. UV radiation can damage your skin without you seeing or feeling it, even on a cloudy day! The UV index is a great tool for identifying when you need to protect your skin. When the UV index is 3 or above, you are at greater risk of damaging your skin, so make sure you are wearing appropriate sun protection.
Remember:
- Check the UV index before heading outdoors
- Protect yourself from the sun, especially when the UV index is 3 or above
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily (don’t forget to reapply!)
- Wear a hat whenever you’re planning to go outside
